I have 10 years of experience driving and did 12 lessons with Alan. I'd say he was and amazing instructor which I learned a lot with and wasn't boring at all! I changed my way of driving. Now I drive safer and more confidant to pass the test! Thanks Alan!!

Essential Driver Training in Ballylickey

It's been around for sometime now. Nearly a decade. And it's all pretty simple.

Think of it as a framework for the delivery of your lessons. 12 concepts for safe driving broken down into a series of 12 lessons.

You have to complete the 12 lessons before you can take your driving test.

The Road Safety Authority recommends you take one 1 hour lesson every 2 weeks.

And they recommend you get 2 more hours of practice driving in between each EDT lesson. That is with your instructor or your sponsor.

We make bookings easy!

What is a sponsor?

Generally your sponsor is one of your parents or guardians.

It can also be your instructor or another family member or friend that has held a full driver license for over 2 years.

Are you the sponsor?

An important tool in helping you to plan practice sessions with the learner driver is the EDT learner logbook.

The learner driver's ADI will provide feedback in the learner's logbook, which is aimed to helping you and your learner to structure practice outside of formal lessons.

As sponsor, your role is to compliment the work of the ADI by supporting the learner driver as they practice what they have learned in their lessons in a wide range of driving conditions and environments in Ballylickey.

Your role is to enable the learner to gain valuable experience and confidence as they learn to drive in Ballylickey.

What's the EDT logbook?

When you begin your EDT lessons in Ballylickey, you'll be given a logbook.

The logbook confirms which of the 12 EDT lessons you've completed, and basically it acts as an official way of letting the RSA know that you're prepared and ready to take your practical driving test.

Your logbook is not only a way of tracking your progress, but it's a way of reflecting on each lesson, and working out what you need to improve on.

There's space for your Ballylickey instructor to write down his or her notes on your performance, and also space for your to self-analyse.

Now don't get too critical here! This isn't about poking holes in everything you do, it's more about reviewing your lesson and figuring out how you can make changes to become a safer and more confident driver.

Your instructor stamps and then uploads all your EDT certifications to the RSA website.

Once their all done you can book your driving test at Ballylickey's nearest test centre.

Preparing for the driving test in Ballylickey

Everyone is nervous about taking the driving test. But nerves only exist when you don't feel prepared.

You can take control of your nerves by doing everything you can to become prepared and our Ballylickey instructors are ready to help you do that.

We will show you what will happen on the day, the test routes, the questions you will face.

And we will simulate the conditions you will experience and feel on test day so that any anxiety left will completely lose its grip on you.

And by the end of it you will feel prepared and in control.

And you'll have the best possible chance of getting that full driving license.

Should I take a manual or automatic car for my driving lessons?

Which transmission you choose to learn in is your decision.

You'll decide this when you first book in with us.

Keep in mind if you learn to drive and pass your test in an automatic you will not be able to drive a manual which may prove to be an inconvenience in the future.

Learning to drive automatic is becoming very popular though and keep in mind automatic lessons are a little more expensive due to supply and demand.

How many driving lessons will I need to take to pass my test?

How long is a piece of string?

Seriously though, it really does vary from person to person but the Road Safety Authority (the government agency in charge of driving licenses) has made it mandatory for all learners to complete the 12 lesson EDT before they can book a driving test.

And it advises that learners should be having at least 2 hours of practice between these EDT lessons which totals a minimum of 36 hours.

What happens if I don't get on with my driving instructor?

While is extremely rare it is possible that a student and an instructor don't have good chemistry.

And you feeling comfortable on your driving lessons is essential to us.

If you feel this way after your first lesson and let us know within 24 hours we will fully refund you for that lesson or switch you to a better suited instructor.

When can I start my driving lessons?

Provided you have a learners permit in your hand then whenever you want!

We will match your needs with the best instructor we have near you and then you will work with your instructor directly after that.

Can I do evening and weekend driving lessons?

We get that you can have a hectic schedule and may need to take lessons outside of ‘work’ hours.

All driving instructors know this.

Just contact your instructor and they will help.

Can I fast track my driving lessons?

The Road Safety Authority recommends that you complete your EDT lessons two weeks apart.

But in reality you may need to get things done fast.

Just remember that you will need contact your instructor well ahead of time to get these lessons booked up in advance to ensure you secure your slots.

Can I rebook my lessons directly through my instructor?

Yes. We strongly advise that you work direct with your instructor.

Can I buy my lessons as part of a package deal?

We like to give you as many options as possible.
